The President Calls Relatives of Injured National Guard Personnel to the White House

Former President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has invited the relatives of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the presidential home.

He mentioned that he contacted her family and they were “heartbroken”.

Background on the Devastating Shooting

Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in critical condition.

Memorials across West Virginia have been held in their memory.

White House Offer

The commander-in-chief explained he’s discussed a White House visit for the families of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president told the press. “And in the same way with him, recover or not.”

Public Response

Mourners came together over the past few days at the high school in the state to remember Beckstrom.

Both the soldiers had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s government program to support policing efforts in the capital.

Honoring the Soldier

“She was the kind of student that instructors wished for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that inspired people around her,” Hankins, the principal of her former high school, told the press. “She was kind, considerate and always ready to help others.”

Funeral arrangements for Sarah are yet to be finalized.

Legal Measures and Government Changes

Officials have indicted a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of first-degree murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.

The incident prompted the government to halt asylum processing and temporarily stop issuing visas to holders of travel documents.

Condition of Wolfe

Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, as reported by the AP.

He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor the governor stated on a news program.

The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed a news show that she planned to meet with Wolfe’s family.

Impact of the Fallen Soldier

Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a law enforcement officer with excellence, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.

“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had bravery,” the governor informed the crowd at the memorial. “Though her life ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
