Paceman Gus Atkinson Compounds England's Injury Concerns.

'Major setback' for the English camp after Atkinson goes off with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson added to the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the field during Saturday's play of the Boxing Day Test versus the Australians.

The pace bowler experienced discomfort in his left leg after the final ball that he bowled on Saturday.

The touring camp indicated the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and was to take time off the field to undergo evaluation "over the next few hours".

The series decider of the series at the SCG starts this coming Sunday.

England have been without key quicks Mark Wood to a knee injury and another paceman to a side strain during this series.

Matthew Fisher was added to the party as cover for Wood.

The seamer had a tough time early in the series, claiming a mere a handful of scalps.

He was dropped of the third Test, then recalled for the Melbourne Test to fill the void.

The county bowler improved at the MCG, taking two wickets with the ball, before adding 28 as a batsman as one of just three English batsmen to get into double digits.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he came back on Saturday morning and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

Yet, towards the conclusion of his spell, he bowled a change of pace to the batsman and immediately felt for his hamstring.

Gus Atkinson returned to the side for the Melbourne match having missed the previous Test.
