Line of Duty Confirmed for Seventh Series on BBC
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th installment, confirmed by the BBC.
An upcoming six-episode series written by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."
The last season wrapped up in recent years with a finale that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only came recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
The seventh season begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most delicate case so far."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for busts of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to act as a sexual predator.
However, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the background, plot details hinted.
In a statement, the creator commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had countless fans track the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new installment."
He added: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston called appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.
Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is returning! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "As we count down the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."
"Pleased with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."
Show History
Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and evolved into a highly successful television series of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.
Broadcasters haven't revealed when the new season will hit screens.
The finale of season six brought the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series is now being produced.
