Condemnation Surges as Trump's Post on Rob Reiner Ignites Sharp Rebuke

Personalities from across the partisan spectrum and the Hollywood world are coming together to denounce Donald Trump for his remarks following the shocking passing of esteemed filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

A Provocative Social Media Statement

Following the discovery of the couple dead at their Los Angeles home, Trump posted on his platform to describe the deceased director as "tortured and struggling". The message, he asserted Reiner's death was "due to the hostility he provoked others through his massive, relentless, and untreatable condition with a debilitating disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

His comments quickly shifted to self-praise, contrasting Reiner's supposed "intense obsession" and "obvious paranoia" with what Trump described as the "Golden Age of America".

Law Enforcement Update and Detention

Police have since confirmed the detention of the couple's adult son, Nick, on charges related to homicide in relation to the case. It is reported his bail was set at a significant sum.

A Torrent of Criticism from Celebrities and Politicians

The reaction to Trump's post was swift and scathing.

“What a vile and vile statement,” said actor Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Media personality Whoopi Goldberg, who described Reiner a close acquaintance, also criticized the statements. She pointed to prior rhetoric from Trump regarding political violence, demanding, "Have you no shame? Can you get any lower?"

California's Governor, Gavin Newsom, simply stated, "He is a sick man."

Mirroring this view, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost said, "What a contemptible piece of trash."

Senator Chris Murphy added, "He's just lost it. Now saying the Reiners caused their own murder because they opposed him. So sick."

Rebuke from His Own Political Ranks

A number of GOP elected officials also voiced disapproval.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene emphasized that the event was "a personal tragedy, not about politics or political enemies". She also alluded to struggles with addiction and mental health some families face.

Another Republican congressman, Thomas Massie, called Trump's discourse "inappropriate and disgraceful" considering the circumstances. He openly dared members in his party to justify the comments.

Reiner's Legacy and Stance on Trump

Rob Reiner was long a vocal critic of Donald Trump. In a past conversation, he stated Trump was "not psychologically suited" for the office. He had also warned about the risks of authoritarian rule should Trump return to power.

"We see autocracy making its move around the world," Reiner said. "Should the United States crumble, there’s a risk that democracy crumble around the world."

Regardless of his pointed criticisms, Reiner had in the past expressed "absolute horror" and condemned violence for political ends unequivocally after the shooting of a different political figure.

A Notable Connection: The Art of the Deal

Adding a element of past connection, Michele Reiner, previously Michele Singer, was the photographer who captured the photograph for Donald Trump's iconic book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had previously shared the anecdote of the photo shoot, mentioning Trump's request for "a specific hair product" as being photographed on a high-rise with a view of Central Park.
