Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of This Year Secures a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the network launched a completely new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often characterized by bleakness, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and supported its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about watching this charming family navigate their everyday routines.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to experience the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
